“How Do They Do It?”
That’s the question British journalists asked themselves when they arrived at KAMAZ this spring to film a story about the best Russian trucks production. This video has already been broadcast by Discovery Channel in the UK.
The short five-minute video of the How Do They Do It? show tells about many things: KAMAZ’s production volume, people building KAMAZ vehicles and unique equipment they use. It’s a simple, accessible and vivid presentation of all stages of KAMAZ vehicles production. It shows the entire chain of truck production – from metal casting to a ready truck rolling off the main assembly line. The journalists told about thorough processing of each detail before it becomes a part of “one of the toughest trucks ever built, famed for its incredible endurance, rugged enough to cope with the African desert or the Siberian winter”.
Now, the show is available only for English-speaking viewers, but it will soon be broadcast by RussiaDiscovery too.
Discovery Channel is considered to be the most interesting and popular TV channel in the world, with more than 1.5 billion viewers in 169 countries daily.

KAMAZ Presents NGVs
Today, KAMAZ vehicles running on natural gas: trucks, buses, loaders, sweeping machines, etc. – have been presented in St. Petersburg, at Rastrelli Square (in front of Smolny Cathedral), in the presence of Aleksandr Drozdenko, Governor of Leningrad Oblast.
The governor and directors of municipal and road services, passenger and cargo carriers examined 11 units of the new model range of KAMAZ vehicles running on natural gas. After the presentation in the House of Government of Leningrad Oblast, Aleksandr Drozdenko, Governor of the region, and Sergey Kogogin, General Director of OJSC KAMAZ, signed a memorandum on cooperation to expand the use of NGVs in Leningrad Oblast, particularly in the supply of KAMAZ buses to passenger carriers of Lomonosov and Gatchina regions.Read the full text »
During the subsequent press conference, Sergey Kogogin noted that the agreement signed with Leningrad Oblast would become an important step in promotion of CNG vehicles, “St. Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast are strategically important areas for KAMAZ striving to expand the geography of NGV sales. KAMAZ has potential to help convert almost 50% of public transport to gas fuel,” the top manager of KAMAZ said.
It should be recalled that this summer it was decided to convert municipal vehicles and passenger transport means of Leningrad Oblast to an alternative fuel – natural gas. This will help to reduce economic costs and rate growth, because the cost of motor gas fuel is half as high as that of petrol or diesel fuel. The use of natural gas as a fuel is beneficial not only to owners of vehicle fleets who can reduce costs for vehicle operation, but also to all residents of the city and the region. Methane is the safest and environmentally friendly fuel the use of which will significantly reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

New Platforms from NEFAZ
Shop 2 of Neftekamsk Automobile Plant, a subsidiary of KAMAZ in Bashkortostan, has equipped a new section for welding and assembly of oval-shaped platforms. It is planned to produce four models of oval-shaped platforms for Dump Trucks 9509, 65201-84, 6520-81, 65115-91.
It was planned to produce 13 assembly and welding stands. The designers were set a task to unify welding and assembly machines in order to save space and reduce costs for tool-making.
Site planning was made by Maryam Egorova, Chief Engineer. Danil Khaibullin, Chief Designer and the winner of a professional skills contest, managed to design a multipurpose and, at the same time, ergonomic construction – a complex convertible stand for welding and assembly of platforms of three models. There is a feature of short changeover of welding machines for different models. And Sergey Balabanov, the twice winner of the design solutions professional competition, who had worked on the stand of Frame 9509, offered a design solution due to which the company managed to save about 55 square meters of production space: one assembly stand can assemble and weld two frame rails and the whole frame.Read the full text »
A stand for welding and assembly of Platform Base 9509 was constructed by Vladimir Babin, a prize-winner of the All-Russian 3D-modeling competition, 3-rd Category Design Engineer. A stand for bases of other platforms and a project of a stand for Side 65115-91 was designed by Elena Uzbekova, 3-rd Category Design Engineer. Other devices were designed with the participation of Rais Khayrullin, Chief Design Engineer – Head of Group, and Liudmila Samarina, 1st Category Design Engineer.
Oval-shaped platforms, unlike bucket ones, feature a number of advantages: a stronger structure due to its rounded shape, improved performance. This saves metal, thereby reducing the overall cost of the dump truck.
Neftekamsk Automobile Plant managed to realize all projects within a short space of time according to the schedule. The site has been constructed, and today’s task for KAMAZ’s subsidiary is to use it effectively.

The new KAMAZ vehicle is a “premium” product on the market of trucks, therefore it was important to train the company’s specialists in compliance with new requirements. According to Mr. Vizinger, more than 60 KAMAZ employees had received training at Daimler factories. The training was organized in such areas as vehicle assembly, logistics, quality control, and also cab production scheduling.
The new KAMAZ vehicles will be fundamentally different from previous models, but at the same time they will still be recognizable on roads: the heavy trucks will have the KAMAZ logo and the same painting as production vehicles of KAMAZ. From the third half year 2014, customers will be offered a much wider range of colors.
